September is attendance awareness month and we want to make sure everyone understands the importance of good attendance. Thanks for partnering with us as we understand the value of being on time, ready to learn, everyday!

Hello Families,
As we wrap up the first two weeks of school, I want to share a few important reminders as we head into next week after the three-day weekend:
Morning drop-off: Please say your goodbyes and give those last hugs before sending your child onto the playground. We kindly ask that parents stay off the playground area during drop-off so students can smoothly transition into their day. Students should not be dropped off before 7:40 a.m., when playground supervision begins.
After school: To help with dismissal, we ask that the playground remain clear until 2:55 p.m. Even if you are with your child, please wait until 2:55 before playing on the playground. This helps prevent distractions that can cause students to miss their bus or make it difficult for rides to find them.
After 2:55 p.m.: Families are welcome to enjoy the playground together.
Pets: While we love animals, we ask that pets be left at home. Pets can sometimes cause anxiety for students and create distractions for those walking or crossing the street safely. If you do bring a pet, please keep it in your vehicle and away from drop-off and pick-up areas.
Thank you for helping us keep arrival and dismissal safe and smooth for all students!

We are so excited to kick off the 25-26 school year tomorrow and can't wait to see all of the students!
A couple of reminders for parents, please read through the attached drop off and pick up procedures and our cellphone/smartwatch policy.
Remember, students need to clear the playground after school and can come back at play at 2:55 with parent/guardian supervision.

On Monday, August 18, all Rapid City Area Schools buildings will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to approximately 10:30 a.m. for our annual District Opener event. This is a special tradition where all RCAS staff gather to celebrate the start of the new school year and align for success. We appreciate your understanding as we take this time to connect, inspire, and ring in the new year together.

After School Reminder:
With the weather getting nicer, we want to ensure that dismissal remains safe, smooth, and respectful for everyone.
✅ Playground Expectations To help avoid congestion during dismissal, we ask that the playground remain clear from 2:45 to 2:55 PM. This short window allows students to safely: Walk or bike home Locate their bus Meet up with their ride Students who would like to stay and play after school should first check in with their parent/guardian and wait until 2:55 PM before returning to the playground under parent supervision.
🚫 Please Note: We've received feedback from Southwest Middle School that elementary students playing on the grassy area and basketball court near their building are causing disruptions after school. Since Southwest is still in session until 3:05 PM and many classroom windows are open, outside noise easily carries into their learning spaces.
To help maintain a respectful learning environment for our neighbors, we ask that elementary students on the Southwest campus go directly to their rides or begin walking home after dismissal. However, if a parent is present and supervising, students are welcome to play on the football field, away from the building.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping dismissal safe, respectful, and well-organized for all students!
